At Plymouth Historical Society, we are dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history of our community. Through our exhibits, events, and educational programs, we strive to inspire a love of history in visitors of all ages.
One of the many displays at the PHS is the Anthracite Room.
On September 6, 1869, 108 miners, men and boys, lost their lives in what is known as the worst mining disaster in history, the Avondale Mine fire. Two additional men would perish trying to rescue them.
The Plymouth Historical Society has begun a fundraiser to have a mural installed at the mine site to honor all of those who died.
Plymouth Historical Society has chosen artist Joel Carson Jones to create and install the mural.
